This
heavyweight depressed-center flat car is painted box car red with white
lettering. This heavy duty car, built by Thrall in 1967, has a capacity of
260,000 lbs. and a platform length of 579". The depressed center is 21'
long, one foot shorter than a similar car built by Roanoke in 1948. The
color and lettering pattern are post-1982. The depressed center flat cars
were designed to handle oversized loads that were too tall to allow
passage through standard tunnels.
